Two named to All-Arizona Academic Team

Two high-achieving students from Scottsdale Community College were named to the All-Arizona Academic Team.

Marli Mayon was named to the First Team and Koop Bills earned Third Team honors.They were among 75 community college students from across the state named to the All-Arizona team and recognized at a March 3 luncheon.

Mayon is eligible to participate in the All-USA Academic Team national competition.

She also recently was named to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Academic team.

She plans to attend Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University (ASU) and pursue degrees in Public Service and Public Policy. She also plans on joining Teach For America while earning her Master's degree.

Bills will major in Biomedical Engineering at ASU. He plans to conduct research in his field and someday open a prosthesis center.

To be considered for an All-Arizona Academic Team, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, be working on an Associate's degree, demonstrate leadership and be involved in campus activities and/or volunteer in their communities.

The All-Arizona Academic Team Award includes a two-year tuition waiver at ASU, University of Arizona or Northern Arizona University. The scholarship is sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, the American Association of Community Colleges, and USA Today.
